Julie is the founder of Presence (www.joinpresence.com), a service that helps seniors stay connected to their families by combining technology with the human touch. After witnessing the power of family engagement during the last year of her grandmother’s life, she is passionate about supporting other families in their care of aging loved ones.
With contributions at Stanford Hospital, Kaiser Permanente and Hospice By The Bay, Julie’s decade-long career as a nurse combines management expertise with a diverse array of clinical knowledge (orthopaedics/trauma, transplant medicine, general medicine, and hospice/palliative care). She obtained her Masters from UCSF School of Nursing, and her Bachelors from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as UC Davis. She has been on the board of YWSE SF since 2017 and currently serves as Co-Chair.
Julie lives in San Francisco with her mini Daschund mix Frankie. She just finished her first marathon, enjoys hosting Couchsurfers from around the world, and hasn’t yet met a custard-filled dessert she doesn’t like.
Christina is a professional filmmaker and photographer based in San Francisco. She moved to the SF Bay Area in 2009 and has also worked in financial planning, investment research, and management. Christina is involved in a number of non-profit social organizations around San Francisco, and joined the board of directors of YWSE in 2019.
Kamayani Gupta likes to say wandering nomad is her full-time job but her real job takes up a good chunk of her time. Her current passion lies in the healthcare world as a managing consultant at Slalom. She spends her off-work hours to be a food security adviser for start-ups around the world and lends a helping hand at her Alma Matter as an Associate Professor at IE Business School.
During the span of her career, Kamayani has effectively used communication and presentation skills to explore different areas ranging from Neuroscience to analyzing retail supply chains. Some of her highlights include conducting educational diplomacy in Malaysia for underprivileged youth to consulting at Pharmaceutical companies on AI Go-to-Market strategies. In addition, Kamayani writes for Huffington Post and Medium, speaks at global events, and rock climbs extensively.
Kamayani has a breadth of experiences that she is excited to bring to YWSE in 2018. By doing so, she hopes to share her passions with like-minded individuals to find simple, cost-effective solutions to global problems.
Meriem is passionate about building more equitable and inclusive communities. In her role as Senior Program Manager of the VMware Foundation she’s launched programs aimed at empowering 25,000+ employees to be active citizens in their communities through Citizen Philanthropy. Prior to joining VMware, Meriem led global peacebuilding initiatives for the Carter Center, focusing on conflicts in the Middle East and Africa. She graduated with a B.A. from the Paris Institute of Political Studies and completed her M.Sc. in International Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her interests include technology, reading, yoga, nature, dance, and music.
Bin is a devoted social entrepreneur who is experienced in business development, partnership building, events convening, research, impact communities/networks building, social entrepreneurship, and impact investing initiatives across social ventures, non-profits, and foundations in both U.S. and China. She has worked for Social Capital Markets by organizing panels on impact investment in Asia and China, curated US-China Social Innovation Forum, co-hosted Chinese social entrepreneur and foundation trade missions in the U.S., performed impact investing due diligence, conducted social innovation landscape research report, contributed to sustainable finance books and social media, and working on a cross-border social innovation start-up to bridge and optimize the resources between the U.S., Europe and China.
Prior to social impact sector, Bin also worked in professional accounting, corporate accounting and governance, and consulting. She was an experienced manager/ consultant in financial and operational audit, risk evaluation, Sarbanes-Oxley regulation compliance, business process and controls improvement, ERP assessment, financial statements and quarterly/ annual financial reports drafting, technical accounting, accounting operations, and business development & market research. Her work crossed in public accounting, corporate accounting and consulting sectors, and served clients from Fortune 500 and start-ups/ pre-IPOs across consumer electronics, high-technology, bio-technology, financial services, education, non-for-profit, etc. in both U.S. and China.
